David Adeleke AKA Davido is arguably the most talked about Artiste in Nigeria this year, not just because of his chart topping singles but his constant involvement in public stunts, safe to say his PR team have worked overtime to make sure the Afro beat star stays in the news constantly.
2017 was an amazing year for Davido and even though this year he hasn’t given us a hit bigger than his famous “IF” the singer has managed to stay relevant one way or the other. Davido gave us something to talk about for months when he publicly announced his relationship with Chioma Avril. Since the lovebirds went public, Davido has bought her a 45 million Naira car, taken her on tour and events and also went as far as releasing a song about her and of course she was the star of the music video for the song “Assurance” which has 22 million views on YouTube and topped charts nationwide. Most artistes have kept their love life private but for Davido the case is different as we have seen him profess his love for Chioma across all his social media platforms ensuring him and his Queen are the most talked about couple in Nigeria at the moment.
Following the social media meltdown over a certain Minister of the Country not having necessary credentials to hold public office, Davido went on to make an appearance at the NYSC camp in Lagos, a move that once more had everyone talking about him for weeks, the singer put himself in the limelight positively and even though many would question the fact that he was back in America the next day for his music tour, he has undoubtedly built and corrected his public image from just being a “spoilt richkid” to a young man who is getting his private life in order as well as selling Africa to the world through his music.
After winning his BET best international act award this year, Davido gave one of the best speeches ever by any African artiste on that platform, Davido used
the opportunity to invite international superstars to Africa, in his own words “you guys should come to Africa, come and taste the food, wear the clothes…”
Whether this moves are intentional attempts to stir public conversations about his brand or not will always be up for argument but no doubt his team has made sure these things break and stay in the news, his management seem to have realized that the entertainment industry doesn’t stop at releasing songs and going on tours but goes further to building a solid positive presence and as far as 2018 is concerned they’ve been spot on !
While we wait for his album this year, we anxiously await whats coming next from OBO.
